Experience:
I have completed 12 years as an educator in public schools. This experience allowed me the opportunity and privilege to work with students from K to 12th grade as well as providing coaching for colleagues. My ability to connect with ALL learners, regardless of age or content, is what sets me apart from your typical mentor or coach. I have a variety of methods for bringing knowledge to participants of workshops and classes.
Prior to my work as a teacher, I worked within the automotive sales industry as a salesperson, trainer, and customer contact resolution specialist. This experience connected me to the stresses of work life beyond education and gives me an edge when understanding those that work in customer service, sales, and management. It is my ability to connect with others that allows me to understand their needs and meet them efficiently.
Educational Certifications and Licenses:
I currently hold my professional teaching license with certifications in K-6 education, English 6-12, and Social Studies 6-12. Additionally, I have endorsements for (ESOL) English Speakers of other Languages as well as Gifted Education. As an educator, I was recognized for my ability to build rapport and create relationships with students as well as engage learners in innovative and creative ways. I was recognized as my school level teacher of the year (2018) as well as the county level social studies teacher of the year (2017). It is my understanding of classroom culture and what is missing for students within those classrooms that allows me to meet students where they are and allows me to structure my mentoring to assist them socially and academically.
I have experienced each of my trainings in Yoga, Social Emotional Learning, and Mindfulness as a student practitioner FIRST. Using each of these methodologies and practices to ease my own needs as an overworked and overstressed educator (and human), I understand the commitment needed as well as the varied approaches available in order to reach the best outcomes.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
As a mindful "mentor", I work WITH you and your specific needs as they relate to using mindfulness and mindful movement. We will use mindfulness to connect with ourselves and create pathways for us to overcome our daily stresses. Using our mind to connect to the present moment is a practice that "takes practice" and time. We will create a timeline, together, and reassess the efficacy of each practice as a team. These offerings can be experienced individually or as a group.
Group offerings are thematic and offer participants an opportunity to engage in mindfulness in whatever capacity fits your needs. These themes can be offered for general gatherings on a drop in basis (If it serves you and your needs, you can join us). Alternately, you can book me to assess the needs of your group (employees, friends, children, etc) and a specialized offering can be created to best meet your needs. Please see my offerings page for more information.
Individual Offerings are tailored to the client, whether you are interested in Mindful Moments, Movement, or Mentoring. These offerings can vary with content as well as length. We will continually check-in to ensure you are making progress in your goals.
Our "Mindful Moments" offering is rooted in neuroscience and based on Jon Kabat Zinn's MBSR program. Clients are educated on the science behind mindfulness as the foundation of the offerings. Our "Mindful Moments" offerings are geared toward the secular practice of mindfulness and not based on any spiritual practice. There are variations of meditation that are from spiritual practices and religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. However, these are not currently being offered by A Mindful Mentor.
Our "Mindful Movement" offerings focus on connecting our minds to our body through breath and movement. Allowing participants to feel what feels right for them is the goal in each practice. Focusing on this connection, to self, and not on particular poses will allow us to move our bodies in whatever ways are available to us (and this can change from practice to practice). Understanding that our ego is our hardest critic, we create space and time for you to engage fully and benefit from the emotional and physical release that follows. Offering variations within positioning and props bring the practice of mindful movement to EVERY BODY.
Our "Mindful Motivation" offering is the perfect blend of emotional and academic support for students. Many times, as parents, we believe our students are struggling with a particular content. While this could be very true, oftentimes our students are struggling with understanding how to be present while in the classroom. Today's students are distracted by a myriad of stimuli. Learning the art of being a mindful student can assist them with connecting to the present moment and assist them with a variety of areas such as; finding it difficult to understand their teacher's lectures (which is an easy struggle as lecturing is the most inactive way of learning offered), struggling to retain what they are reading, or having difficulty remaining organized and on top of projects. Focusing on beefing up their awareness of their social emotional needs, in the moment, and giving them tools to return themselves to learning mode may be the missing link. As an educator with multiple certifications, I can also offer academic support specific to learning challenges and opportunities. If for any reason a client has an academic need I am unable to meet, I am part of a community of educators that offer tutoring.
A Mindful Mentor believes that wellness should never be out of reach as a result of lack of funds.
For this reason, ALL of our services are offered on a sliding scale. We are working on creating that commerce section within our site. Please pardon our dust as we are still under construction.
We invite you to reach out to discuss which offerings meet your needs so that we can create a program the meets your budget.
1. Visit our "Offerings" page and become acquainted with what is offered.
2. Drop in for a mindfulness experience so you can get a taste test. Then, reach out for a consultation/Meet and Greet phone call so we can begin to shed some light on your needs and how A Mindful Mentor can meet them.
3. Understand that the time that your mentoring process will take depends on the complexity of your goals and your commitment and openness to your process. We will create a game plan with some S.M.A.R.T goals we can revisit to assess whether we are on the right path.
